Stay Safe In The Sun

Remember these tips for sun safety when you are out on your bike

  • Spend time in the shade between 11 and 3
  • Make sure you never burn
  • Aim to cover up with a t-shirt, hat and sunglasses
  • Remember to take extra care with children
  • Then use factor 15+ sunscreen
  • Also report mole changes or unusual skin growths promptly to your doctor.
  • Drink plenty of water: When cycling you will lose moisture through your skin, especially on a hot sunny day. It is important to keep your body hydrated by drinking lots of water.
  • Keep the sun off your head: Wearing a cycle helmet can help to provide shade.
  • Take breaks: If you feel you are getting too hot while cycling then stop. Make sure you pull over to the side of the road safely, away from traffic and preferably on to a pavement.
  • Protect your skin: Remember to use plenty of sunscreen on your face, arms and legs – any exposed part of your body. Lip balm with sun protection is also a good idea.
  • Try not to squint in the sun: the sun can be bright, particularly at mid-day. If you are on your bike, you will need to remain vigilant with good vision. Shade your eyes with sunglasses.
