DOWSON PRIMARY ENCOURAGES LEANER, GREENER PUPILS!
....More details
DOWSON Primary School, Hyde, is helping its pupils become leaner and greener after receiving a grant as part of the Government's School Travel Plan scheme and financial assistance from Tameside Council.
The money has been used to create a new all weather eco-friendly grass-covered route into the school grounds for both pedestrians and cyclists and also 26 bicycle capacity bike stands.
The move comes after pupils were questioned as to what would encourage them to cycle or walk to school, instead of getting a lift in the car. Many pupils commented that safety was the greatest issue.
Chijioke Ebizie the Cycling Officer for Tameside Council said: "We are trying to promote a healthier lifestyle and a greener environment, and so far many of the children have been very responsive- they are really enjoying cycling to school with their friends"
The new facilities were formally opened on Friday September 23 at 1.30pm by local MP James Purnell and Local Councillors.
