The five mile route aims to encourage cyclists who may not be happy in heavy traffic, as it incorporates quieter residential roads and traffic-free links through parks, while still being reasonably direct. It's not the main aim for everyone to cycle from Stockport to the Airport - the route passes a number of schools [and so supports their travel plans], as well as businesses.Signs and road markings have been designed to ensure the route remains clearly visible. At present, it is still necessary to negotiate either the Royon Drive footbridge steps, or the roundabout at the north end of Bird Hall Lane. This information is also marked on the 2010 / 2011 edition of the Stockport cycle map.
