Following preliminary clearances and site surveys along the proposed Metrolink Line in Didsbury and Parrs Wood , it has be necessary for the section of the Trans Pennine Trail between School Lane and Burnage Lane to be temporarily closed.

The Government have now given their full approval to the East Didsbury Metrolink extension, which will include re-instatement of the TPT alongside the new tram lines. Contractors have continued to carry out preparation works to allow for construction of the tram line starting in the summer. Metrolink services are anticipated to commence in 2013, when the TPT will re-open.

In the interim, a signed diversion route has been developed, users are requested to follow the signed diversion route whilst these works are ongoing. Improvements will be carried out to the diversion route to improve access for cyclists followign consultation with cycle user groups and the Police.

TPT Diversion - General Directions:

From Didsbury the diversion route follows William Street, School Lane, Queensway and Burnage Lane, where the diversion ends and the route rejoins the Trans Pennine Trail and crosses into Stockport (From Stockport, follow diversion route in reverse).
