National Bike Week
Team Green Britain Bike Week is an annual opportunity to promote cycling and demonstrate its social, health and environmental benefits of cycling.
Cycling and sustainability experts from Wigan Council will be staging a roadshow to promote the week in both Leigh and Wigan town centres, with special ‘bike doctor’ advice sessions hosted by local cycle shops.
In 2010, Team Green Britain Bike Week’s theme is 'everyday cycling for everyone', and aims to inspire people to try out cycling – for fun, and as a means of getting around – to the local shops, to school, the library or just to visit friends.
The local events are:
Leigh town centre Bradshawgate (opp McDonalds)– 17 June 10am – 4pm with Wigan Council and Ratcliffe’s bikes
Wigan town centre Standishgate ( opp WH Smith’s) – 18 June 10am - 4pm with Wigan Council and Alan’s Bike Shop
Look out for the trailer, packed with leaflets, cycle maps, freebies and your chance to win a free bike.
Nationally, the organisers of Team Green Britain Bike Week are challenging people to rethink their everyday journeys and switch to cycling as the most convenient and sustainable way to get around. To find out further ways to get involved, visit the Bike Week website.
During Bike Week, and throughout the year, there are organised bike rides for people of all ages and abilities. There are several sites throughout the Borough and more information can be found by visiting Active Living
