Wigan Council is offering FREE cycle training to children News and events

We have an interactive cycle map and an order form for copies of paper maps.


During the school summer holidays, we are offering FREE Bikeability training to children.


LEVEL ONE teaches basic skills and bicycle handling, and is suitable for children aged 8 and over. It is a single 2-hour session, starting at 10am and finishing by 12pm. The locations are:

• Ashton - Leisure Centre, Old Road: Tuesday 20 July
• Atherton - Parklee CP School, Wardour Street: Wednesday 21 July
• Hindley - Leisure Centre, Mornington Road: Wednesday 18 August
• Leigh - Twelve Apostles Catholic School, Nel Pan Lane: Thursday 5 August
• Leigh - Bedford High School, Manchester Road: Tuesday 17 August
• Lowton - Civic Centre, Hesketh Meadow Lane: Tuesday 3 August
• Norley Hall - venue to be confirmed: Wednesday 4 August
• Shevington - Shevington CP School, Miles Lane: Thursday 22 July
• Tyldesley - Garrett Hall CP School, Garrett Hall Lane: Thursday 19 August


LEVEL TWO gives children the skills they need to cycle safely to school on quiet roads, and is suitable for children aged 10 and over. It is four sessions over four consecutive days, and each 2-hour session starts at 10am and finishes by 12pm. Children must attend all four sessions. The locations are:

• Ashton - Leisure Centre, Old Road: 19 to 22 July
• Atherton - Leisure Centre, Howe Bridge: 26 to 29 July
• Hindley - Leisure Centre, Mornington Road: 26 to 29 July
• Ince - Ince CE School, Pickup Street: 23 to 26 August
• Leigh - Bedford High School, Manchester Road: 16 to 19 August
• Lowton - Civic Centre, Hesketh Meadow Lane: 2 to 5 August
• Marus Bridge - The Grange, Highfield Grange Avenue: 9 to 12 August
• Norley Hall - venue to be confirmed: 9 to 12 August
• Standish - St. Marie's School, Avondale Street: 23 to 26 August
